President Trump on Friday spoke to reporters after announcing that Stephen Miller will start on Monday as his new White House Chief of Staff.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump announced earlier that he was replacing Susie Wiles with Miller, his current Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor since 2025.
Trump called Miller “one of my most trusted advisors.”
“Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation,” Trump said.
“I want to thank her for her service as Chief of Staff — She has done a great job!”
This comes as Wiles was under fire and facing calls to resign over the midterm elections.
Trump declined to say whether his decision to move Wiles was linked to the Republicans’ devastating midterm defeat, instead telling reporters, “Stephen Miller will be the new chief of staff, and Susie’s going to go over to the political operation.”
Asked what he wants Miller to do differently, Trump said he wants him to “just run things well.”
Previously, Trump told reporters that he did not have plans to fire Wiles and that reports of a looming shakeup were “false” and “fake news.” He said before the midterms, “I could not be more happy with Susie. She’s done a great job from day one.”
Asked about these comments, Trump said on Friday, “I wanted to make a change,” but maintained that “Susie’s done a very good job, great job.”
“But I just wanted to make it. Stephen’s been great, and we got to make, we got to make moves. Sometimes in life you have to make moves,” he added.
“Stephen’s been with me from the beginning. He gets it, very good politically, and he’s a very good manager. He’ll do a great job. Great manager,” Trump said of his decision to pick Miller.
