Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) on Thursday followed through on his promise to “hand-carry” a criminal referral of Dr. Anthony Fauci to the Department of Justice after a Senate panel voted to hold him in contempt of Congress.
“The next decision we have decided is we will forward it. It’s the committee’s verdict that he should be held in contempt, and it will be sent,” Paul told reporters earlier.
As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee passed a resolution to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress for his refusal to answer questions before the Senate. The resolution passed along party lines by a vote of 8-5.
This comes after Fauci’s contentious Senate hearing last week, where he refused to answer any questions and invoked his Fifth Amendment right more than 100 times as Senate Republicans grilled him over the COVID pandemic and his many lies over the years.
Fauci even refused to answer basic questions like what day of the week it was, what color his tie was, and what color the carpet was when Senator Josh Hawley tested him.
Prior to the vote, Paul said he would “immediately send it to the Department of Justice and ask them to continue proceedings to come down with an indictment,” bypassing a Senate floor vote.
“There is some legal discussion and case work and precedent on this, and so we will put this forward, we will make our arguments,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.

Paul was asked on Thursday, after the vote passed, if he was “comfortable” with “breaking precedent,” and he defended the move, noting, “No one said that we won’t bring it before the Senate.”
“We’ll see what happens over time, but this is outside of the ordinary billmaking process. It doesn’t have to go to the House, doesn’t have to be signed by the president, and really doesn’t have to go before the Senate. There is some precedent for doing it that way, and it still may be done that way. But for now, we will hand carry this over to the attorney general, we will hand-carry this to the district court here in Columbia, and we will, as a committee, we have voted the majority to refer this. So that will be accomplished today.”
When asked to respond to Fauci’s claims that he is being targeted by Paul, Paul said, “A million Americans died, and I think they deserve to know the truth. Anthony Fauci has advocated for dangerous gain-of-function research for two decades now.”
“The question why is not a question that he can have liability for. He was given a pardon. Interestingly, the pardon starts in 2014. That’s when the funding of the lab in Wuhan started. So I think he should answer questions,” he said. “As far as pleading the fifth when you have a pardon, all you have to do is tell the truth, just not commit a new crime. But if we were to grant him immunity from telling the truth, of what value you know would his testimony be? So I think the American people do deserve to know this.”
Paul further slammed Fauci for his lies at the beginning of the pandemic and claims that the virus did not come from a lab while having a conflict of interest. He also slammed the left-wing media for their malpractice in letting him get away with the lies. “He wasn’t an objective observer, and he wasn’t adequately questioned really by the media on did he have a conflict of interest? Did he have a self interest in it not being from the lab? Of course, he did because he funded the lab,” Paul added.

Paul later posted photos of his letters to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and US Attorney Jeanine Pirro, which he said were “hand-delivered to the DOJ.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump also weighed in on the contempt vote, accusing Fauci of crimes that are “far more serious than a lot of crimes” and noting that his advisors, Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, were both sent to prison for defying subpoenas from the January 6 committee.
