UK Backs Down on Apple “Backdoor” Mandate
This is a major win for privacy and civil liberties.
Tulsi Gabbard, now Director of National Intelligence, has just announced that after months of pressure from Trump and Vance, the UK government has dropped its plan to force Apple to install a “backdoor” into its devices.
That backdoor would have given authorities access to encrypted messages and private data — not just of UK users, but of American citizens as well. It was nothing less than an open invitation to mass surveillance, destroying the very concept of secure communication.
The Trump team stood firm and made it clear that America would not allow foreign governments to compromise the privacy of U.S. citizens. And now the UK has backed down.
