Medvedev Threatened Lithuania with being Wiped off the Map

By Yulia Shepilova – News feed editor

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated that Russia would be forced to respond if Lithuania allowed nuclear weapons to be deployed on its territory. According to him, in the event of a military conflict, Lithuania could “disappear from the world map.”

Medvedev made this statement during a visit to the Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation, according to RIA Novosti.

Medvedev called Lithuania’s plans to change its non-nuclear status futile.

“Those fools don’t understand that if, God forbid, something like that happens and we have to respond to their actions—particularly in Lithuania itself—no one will stand up for them,”

Medvedev also stated that NATO would allegedly not invoke Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which provides for collective defense. He explained this by citing the risk of a “global, planetary catastrophe.”

Even if the whole place is reduced to a scorched-earth landscape, no other countries will go to war for them. And as for the well-known Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty—it won’t be invoked; everyone acknowledges that. Because if it were invoked, it would lead to a global, planetary catastrophe. They’re not stupid. But Lithuania will disappear from the world map.
