Elon Musk promises to build the first city on the Moon within 10 years.
SpaceX has already shifted its focus to building a self-sustaining city on the Moon, as it is potentially feasible in less than 10 years, compared to over 20 years on Mars.
SpaceX’s mission remains unchanged: to extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars.
A trip to Mars is only possible when the planets align every 26 months (a six-month travel time), while we can travel to the Moon every 10 days (a two-day travel time). This means we can complete a lunar city much faster than a Martian one.
“SpaceX will also try to build a city on Mars and will start doing so in about 5-7 years, but the primary goal is to ensure the future of civilization, and the Moon is a faster route,” Musk wrote on X.
