The Spanish government has blocked two U.S.-flagged Maersk cargo ships—Maersk Denver and Maersk Saltaire—from docking at its ports over suspicions of transporting weapons to Israel. This decision, announced by the Spanish Foreign Ministry, follows Spain’s criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza.
The ministry blocked the ships from entering ports like Algeciras and Cartagena, citing possible violations of Spanish criminal law. The ships departed from New York in late October and early November 2024, with the block occurring soon after. Spanish officials are investigating the cargo and have pledged “necessary measures” if the suspicions are confirmed.
