ALBANESE’S Labor government will take away funding from state and national sports associations that don’t apply the “gender equity” rule to their boards and even sub-committees.
This is the rampant femo-fascism – the increasing enforcement of leftist gender ideology on Australians – that we recently highlighted in a Queensland case.
And it’s not just equal male-female boards and sub-committees, if your local trans activist wants to get on your sports board, you’d better obey or face the wrath of your Federal Labor Government overlords and/or the Australian Sports Commission.
You can bet your bottom dollar that neo-Marxist gender activists Australia-wide will be gearing up for well-paid jobs on state and national sports bodies. The feminist CEO types have already made their mark in AFL and cricket with enforcement of politically correct player and promotion of leftist agendas on match days.
Similarly the ASC chairmanship has been captured by leftist feminist Kate Jenkins AO, the former Australian Sex Discrimination Commissioner and Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner. Former Olympic swimmer and CEO of ASC, Keiran Perkins, apparently speaking from under Jenkins’ boot, has endorsed this imposition of this totalitarian leftism.
Meanwhile PM Albanese’s jackbooted feminists, Minister for Women Katy Gallagher and Sports Minister Anika Wells, are opening the way for even more political control of over the regular Aussie sports organisations and in particular the notorious “old white males” they hate and think are over represented in sports administration.
Will their next step be to “gender-neutralize” all-male sports teams? After all, isn’t it a crime against “diversity” not to have women represented on NRL teams? Isn’t that a form of male chauvinist discrimination against women? Gallagher, Jenkins, Wells and their ilk would secretly agree.
Cairns News asks, were Australians consulted about this? No they weren’t. It was just another “manufactured consensus” job by Labor’s gender activists working through the Albanese government, the ASC and State and Territory sport and recreation agencies. Gallagher and Wells claim the policy is “supported by all states and territories”.
“More women [including those who identify as women or men] will have more opportunities at boardroom tables following the launch of the National Gender Equity in Sport Governance Policy, which addresses the under representation of women in sports leadership,” the ministers announced.
“Despite almost equal sport participation rates between men and women, women are still underrepresented in governance and leadership positions across the Australian sport sector,” they continued.
“Central to the policy is gender equity targets that have been set for the governance of national and state level sport bodies. This will require the Australian sport sector to reach the following standards by July 1 2027:
- 50% of all board directors are women and/or gender diverse
- 50% of board chairs are women and/or gender diverse
- 50% of specified board sub-committee members are women and/or gender diverse.”
According to these Canberra femo-fascists, currently, 62% of funded national organisations reach the “required standard of gender diversity in board directors”, while “only 25%” of national sporting organisations and national sporting organisations for people with disability are chaired by a woman.
We could respond to that latter statistic by calling women slack, uncaring and lacking compassion. But we know that’s not true. Conversely are we supposed to condemn men for being the majority gender involved in disabled sports?
No, the femo-fascists like Gallagher, Wells and Jenkins hate the fact that women naturally tend to care for families while husbands naturally tend to do breadwinning, or when retired, go into voluntary positions on local sports organisations. These Labor neo-Marxists are hellbent on smashing traditions.
Now, sports organisations “will be required to report annually”, a “self assessment” based on so-called Sports Governance Standards and Gender Equity Targets. No “gender equity” compliance will mean no taxpayer money returned from Canberra.
According to Gallager and Wells, the ASC “worked closely with all of the State and Territory Agencies of Sport and Recreation (STASRs) to co-design the policy.” Cairns News is truly awestruck by this.
“A stakeholder focus group was formed to provide feedback on the policy including representation from STASRs, Sports Federations, Games Partners, National Sporting Organisations (NSOs) and State Sporting Organisations (SSOs).
“Non-compliance measures apply to all recognised National Sporting Organisations and National Sporting Organisations for people with Disability. The Policy does not apply to community clubs and associations or to professional clubs and leagues, “although the government encourages them to voluntarily adopt the policy”.
Cairns News warns that the Canberra femo-fascists will eventually make it compulsory for the latter groups when they feel they can get away with it – perhaps straight after an election if they win or rig it their way.
In her statement Minister Wells issued the standard feminist baloney: “We need more women making decisions for more women. Our sporting systems are not equal and this policy will help address the gender imbalances prevalent in sports leadership.
“Diversity within an organisation’s senior roles provides a more complete mix of skills, perspectives and experiences, resulting in better decision-making and improved performance.” Cairns News says bollocks. Those skills are based on an individual’s experience, training and character. They are not qualities determined by gender or so-called diversity.
Gallager spouted the same drivel: “For too long, women have not been represented in leadership and decision-making roles across a range of sports. The Albanese Government is committed to driving change and improving the representation of women in these important governance roles.
“In Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality the Government committed to driving gender equality by improving leadership, representation, and decision-making. Initiatives like the Gender Equity in Sport Policy are important to drive this structural change and improve representation of women.
The ideological claptrap continued with Jenkins: “As someone who has worked in the gender equity and inclusion space for decades, today’s announcement is an important forward step for the sport sector. I’m optimistic about the positive impact this policy will have for sport at all levels.
“While this policy focuses on gender equity, it sets a framework to improve representation of all elements of diversity including age, cultural background and disability in the longer term.”
“This is not just good for women but will help ensure sport is more accessible and equal for all Australians.” Except for white males, right Mesdames Gallagher, Jenkins and Wells?
