Mystery Machine News published purported messages and an anonymous former lover’s account alleging an open-marriage arrangement, while Lindsay brushed off the story without answering its particulars.
James Lindsay faces a new personal scandal after Mystery Machine News published purported private messages, images, and an account from an unnamed former lover who alleged that Lindsay pursued a one-sided open relationship while married.
The report says the woman communicated with Lindsay from 2020 through early 2023 and met him in person. It pairs that account with purported sexual messages, email notifications, and a 2021 Snapchat photograph.
Mystery Machine News said it tested selected message dates against archived changes to Lindsay’s X display name. The source remains anonymous.
Lindsay did not directly answer the report’s claims. After it spread, he posted, “Oh no! I’m being dragged on the Internet again. Maybe this time it will actually work.”
The report also revives Lindsay’s public connection to former NXIVM member Nicki Clyne. When critics raised a 2022 photograph of the pair, Lindsay said they had appeared on the same panel and posed for pictures in a green room.
NXIVM founder Keith Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in federal prison after convictions that included racketeering, sex trafficking, attempted sex trafficking, forced-labor conspiracy, and wire-fraud conspiracy.
Mystery Machine News alleges the published messages and its anonymous source reveal a deeper Lindsay-Clyne relationship than the panel-event explanation. Lindsay’s post does not address that allegation.
