AN unsourced and well edited story doing the rounds of social media is claiming that Trump’s coup in Venezuela is about the petrodollar and global oil suppies.
It has the ring of truth about it because Venezuela has the world;s largest known reserves of oil and that oil was being sold to China for yuan or currencies othere than the dollar. Russia also had a presence in the country, which was seen as a strategic threat to US military hegemony in the region,
The repeated claim via media has been that Venezuela’s President Maduro was running drugs into the US, namely the socially destructive opioid fentanyl. Much of this is believed to come from China. Trump recently sent naval ships into the region and suspected drug boats were simply blown out of the water.
But Venezuela was up to other mischief under the former president Hugo Chavez In 2006, Lou Dobb s reported that the global voting machine company Smartmatic was being run by Venezuela and US attorney Sidney Powell has been saying since 2020 that this is how the 2020 US presidential election was stolen.
Dobbs reported that a Venezuelan military Intelligence whistleblower confirmed that the CIA outsourced this election rigging technology from Venezuela. So the bigger picture is certainly more than narco-trafficking.
Maduro has been accused of using Smartmatic technology to rig other elections and bring in leftist governnents across South America.
Smartmatic is suing Fox Corp and commentators for $2.7 billion damages for allegedly defaming it with false claims that its machines rigged the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Last October Smartmatic was charged in the US federal court in Florida with money laundering and other crimes, in an alleged foreign bribery conspiracy involving three of its former executives to secure business in the Philippines.
Federal prosecutors named Smartmatic parent SGO Corp as a defendant in the ongoing criminal prosecution filed in 2024 against three former executives for their alleged roles in the scheme.
In neighbouring Ecuador, the conservative President Daniel Noboa said Venezuelans opposed Maduro and his political godfather, Chavez,
“All the criminal narco-Chavistas will have their moment,” Mr Noboa said on X. “Their structure will finally collapse across the continent.”
Global leftist networks came out protesting against the invasion, including in Melbourne and Sydney where Venezuelan expats were joined by pro-Palestinian groups who ignored NSW’s unlawful protest ban.
The Nobel Peace Prize-winning Venezualan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado will be Trump’s favorite to take over the presidency. She has already said she will move the country’s Israel embassy to Jerusalem.
This prompted X contributor AdamMedia to make the following statement: “This is the CIA/Mossad destabilisation puppet they gave the Nobel Peace Prize to. She’s trying to destroy Venezuela so America can pillage its oil & Israel can have control.”
One pro-Trump contributor suggested the invasion was designed to destroy old CIA drug networks.
“Over the years, the CIA created a vast global network of proxies and racketeering playgrounds via regime change and destabilization.
“Trump and his team now control the CIA, meaning Trump and his team have the Deep State network mapped out, and thus they know how to destroy it. I think that’s what we have been witnessing with Iran, Hamas/ISIS, Ukraine, and now Venezuela.
“All CIA/Deep State proxies that are being neutralized and returned to the people as a sovereign nation, free of CIA influence. I also think Elon and DOGE played an important role of finding all the information and mapping out the network.
“Trump is destroying the global CIA/Deep State network that JFK tried to expose. This is what saving the world looks like.”
