Irish teacher barred from Anglican school because he won’t use ‘they’ pronoun

“MALE and female He made them” declares the Christian Bible, but not in the new “progressive” EU-aligned Irish Republic – not even in an exclusive Anglican school that claims to promote Christian principles.

A former German and history teacher at the school, Enoch Burke, was instructed that he should refer to a so-called transgender child as “they”. Burke refused, based on his firm belief, as a Christian teacher, that the Bible teaches in Genesis 1:27 that God created male and female.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them,” the Genesis text reads.

The popular and highly educated Irish teacher, commended by students and parents, has been repeatedly blocked from his place of work because he will not deny his Christian belief. The school employed a security guard at a cost of €763 (AUS $1340) per week to prevent Burke from getting into the school in County Westmeath.

An application to make Mr Burke liable for that cost is to be made by the school, which will be on top of some €225,000 in daily fines. These have been imposed by the court for breaching orders not to turn up at the school from where he says he has been unlawfully dismissed.

Mr Burke has so far spent more than 500 days in prison for continuing to breach court orders. In September, a judge decided against sending him back to prison, saying it would give “fuel and publicity to his perverted sense of justice” and suggested instead that private security be employed to keep him out – all this because a teacher would not bow to globalist/cultural Marxist ideology.

The Anglican administration who run the school can be described as little more than hypocrites and cowards, who grovel in the face of ideological dictates from a government and donors, in turn beholden to the ideological dictates of the EU that enforces the Orwellian concept of “gender neutrality” by law.

These are the same administrators who post on the school website: “The Spiritual development of our students is a core feature of our ethos. Weekly assembly features an act of worship with Bible reading and prayer. All boarders attend Chapel Services on Sunday night and all students receive Religious Education, using approved NCCA curricula. Students participate in a number services throughout the year such as:

  • Founder’s Day (8th September)
  • Harvest Thanksgiving
  • Remembrance Sunday
  • Christmas Carol Service
  • Confirmation
  • Easter Services
  • Ash Wednesday”

It’s all outwardly “Christian” except when a teacher refuses to bow to the forced-speech demands of a secular state.

“Today a teacher is barred from entering simply because he will not trample on the Christian ethos of the school and endorse transgenderism,” says a social media post on the case.

The Irish Times reports that Burke resumed turning up at the school at the beginning of this term, despite being due to face a disciplinary panel to decide whether he should be dismissed. A decision is awaited on when a new panel will sit, although Mr Burke has again objected to one of the members of the new panel, the court heard.

He says his constitutional and religious rights have been breached by the school because he objected to using “they/them” with reference to a transgender student and to use their new name.

Mr Justice Brian Cregan was told on Tuesday by Rosemary Mallon BL, for the school board, that, following the September suggestion by another judge, a security guard was employed by the school to stop him getting on to the property, starting on Monday.

In 1724, Andrew Wilson, a prominent local merchant, stated that in the event of there being no direct male heirs to his estate that it, and all its profits, be transferred to the Church of Ireland hierarchy and used to build a hospital (sheltered accommodation) for aged Protestant men and a school for poor Protestant boys.

“We are proud of our Church of Ireland heritage. Students of all faiths and none are welcome, provided there is an acceptance of our ethos,” the school administrators state, apparently oblivious to the fact that people advocating “transgenderism” are defying the biblical definition of human beings.

One wonders why a so-called transgender child would be placed in a Christian school, given the obvious clash of values. Was it the case that it was done in order to create this very clash of belief and to force the administrators to compromise and water down Christian ethos and beliefs?
