The air traffic control tower at Hollywood Burbank Airport was left unmanned Monday evening as controllers called out amid the ongoing government shutdown, citing unpaid work.
According to the FAA, the tower went offline around 4:15 p.m. and was expected to remain without staff until 10 p.m. In the meantime, air traffic duties were handed over to Southern California TRACON in San Diego, which managed takeoffs and landings remotely.
FAA response: “As Secretary Duffy noted, increased staffing shortages across the system have occurred. When this happens, the FAA slows traffic into some airports to ensure safety.”
