Trump is threatening the FED.
President Trump threatens to stop trading with countries that run trade surpluses with the U.S. unless the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates at its next meeting in September.
“We should have the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World,” Trump wrote. Calling high rates an “unfair disadvantage,” he added: “I won’t allow that to happen.”
The demand comes ahead of the Fed’s Sept. 15-16 meeting, but financial markets see virtually no chance of a cut. Before Friday’s unexpectedly strong jobs report, traders were pricing in roughly a 55% chance of a rate hike and a 45% chance that rates remain unchanged.
Vice President JD Vance also demanded Thursday that the Fed be cutting rates, arguing that lower borrowing costs would make housing more affordable.
