The House Oversight Committee just took the Epstein investigation to a new level. On July 23, members voted to authorize Chairman James Comer to issue subpoenas targeting Bill and Hillary Clinton, among others. The motion came from Rep. Scott Perry and passed by voice vote without formal opposition. A total of ten former officials made the list, including names from both parties. Some are connected to Ghislaine Maxwell, others to past decisions inside the Justice Department. Staff say the subpoenas are imminent.
Earlier that same day, the committee also greenlit a broader subpoena aimed at the Department of Justice itself. The goal is to obtain every Epstein-related file. That motion passed 8 to 2, led by Rep. Summer Lee. Rep. Andy Biggs added an amendment seeking Biden administration communications linked to Epstein. Another from Rep. Nancy Mace called for redacting the names of victims and any abuse-related images. Lawmakers also agreed to summon Ghislaine Maxwell for questioning on August 11 at FCI Tallahassee.
These moves came just weeks after the DOJ issued a memo on July 6 declaring the Epstein matter officially closed. The backlash was immediate. Trump then directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to unlock sealed grand jury transcripts. Bondi confirmed her office is actively reviewing whether Maxwell can still assist ongoing probes. The bipartisan nature of the committee’s push suggests neither side is backing down.
At nearly the same moment, the DOJ rolled out a new Strike Force. The team falls under the National Security Division and is tasked with digging into newly declassified files from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Her disclosures allege Obama-era officials twisted raw intel to shape the Russia collusion storyline. One document shows Obama authorized a release of material that lacked supporting evidence, according to page three of the declassified batch.
The DOJ issued a rare statement, calling the allegations “deeply concerning” and pledged to conduct a full review. Attorney General Bondi added, “We will investigate these troubling disclosures fully and leave no stone unturned to deliver justice.” That review is already moving forward. Referrals have been filed for former CIA Director John Brennan and ex-FBI Director James Comey. Investigators are weighing conspiracy charges.
Gabbard’s second release contains emails, internal memos, and briefing summaries. One chain cites Russian blackmail involving Hillary Clinton’s medical files. During her press conference, CNN abruptly cut away while she was speaking. Critics immediately accused the network of censorship.
The fact that both the Epstein subpoenas and the intelligence probe were launched within hours of each other has drawn attention. Some suspect overlap. Officially, there’s no confirmation of a direct link. But something has clearly shifted. Tensions are building, and both investigations now sit in the political blast zone.
